The latest addition to the Baleària fleet arrives at the Pitiusas, the new fast ferry Eco Aqua . The new catamaran, of 28 meters in length and capacity for 350 passengers, has started operating on the Eivissa-Formentera route, after carrying out the docking tests in both ports yesterday with satisfactory results. Also, the Eco Aqua already recorded an excellent behavior during navigation that made from the Asturian shipyards to the Pitiusas last week.
This vessel, which can sail at a maximum speed of 27 knots, stands out for its design and eco-efficiency. In this sense, it is worth mentioning the innovative wave-piercing bow and equipped with lateral water evacuation tunnels, which guarantee greater reliability and comfort in adverse sea conditions. Regarding energy efficiency, it should be noted that the Eco Aqua is powered by latest generation engines that minimize polluting emissions, incorporates 24 photovoltaic solar panels on the roof of the upper deck for the supply of services on board and its hull is polyester reinforced with fiberglass, which is more ecological by not requiring the application of paint.

Another aspect that has prevailed in the construction is the accessibility and comfort of passengers on board. The eco fast ferry, which will make the route in 30 minutes, has two decks, one of them exterior, with capacity for 80 people. The passengers will also have free Wi-Fi connection during the whole trip, like the rest of the ships of this line. On the other hand, the shipping company has implemented in this vessel the use of biodegradable utensils and utensils in the on-board cafeteria, which are more sustainable due to their composition and life cycle.
The Eco Aqua is the first eco fast ferry of a series of four, which the Baleària shipping company is building in the Gondan shipyards of Asturias, to operate on the Eivissa-Formentera line. It is expected that the rest of the catamarans will be incorporated into the line during 2018.
As a result of Baleària’s commitment to the environment and society, the shipping company is working on a social responsibility project for the four ships, named after the four elements that make up nature according to the classics: Eco Aqua, Eco Terra, Eco Air and Eco Lux .
