More Than 1.300 Seafarers Trained In Siport21 Ship Simulation Center

Since it was established, more than 1.300 seafarers have been trained in Siport21 Real-Time Ship Simulation Center, highlighting 963 Captains or Chief Officers of international shipping companies and 311 Pilots. All of them have attended Training Programs or articipated in port facilities projects in collaboration with the company.

Nearly 1.000 Captains or Chief Officers belong to the staff of 48 international and national shipping companies. Most of them are related to Liquefied Natural Gas, where the company has developed more than 300 Training Programs. Among the clients of Siport21 are GasLog, Exmar, Knutsen, Nakilat, BP Shipping, Teekay, VShips, NSQL, NYK LNG, Pronav, Shell, Alpha Gas, BG Group, Höegh and Golar.

These programs are tailor made for the client and they are based on her own methodology approved by DNV-GL which includes building scenarios and specific ships.

On the other hand, Pilots from 22 Spanish ports have attended in different port infrastructure projects -A Coruña, Algeciras, Barcelona, Bilbao, Castellon, Gijon, Tenerife, Sevilla y Valencia, among others- as well as from 27 international ports – Peru, Argentina,

Mexico, Brazil, Portugal, Cuba, Colombia, Italy, Thailand, Pakistan, Morocco, Jordan, Taiwan and Tunis. In these projects, the Pilots have collaborated, with the technical team of Siport21, in the feasibility assessment of new infrastructures or upgrading of actual facilities. The access of new larger vessels or the management of new traffics, like dangerous goods, is the objective of other projects.

Also, Tug Masters from 7 tug companies have manoeuvred in the Ship Simulation Center, such as Reyser, Refesa, SAAM, Svitzer, Coltugs, Intertug o Coremar.

In response to the concern related to maritime safety and improvement of Captains, Officers and Pilot’s quality training, the number of these activities has increased in the last years. These training courses provide seafarers with more confidence and knowledge in new aritime manoeuvres or in emergency response. This activity was worth the Training Award by Spanish Maritime Cluster in 2016.
