The Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) with an aim to promote the development, consolidation and regulation of the maritime sector based on competitiveness, sustainability, excellence and innovation. The MOC is a result of relentless efforts by both parties to establish effective strategic partnerships to elevate the UAE’s position as one of the world’s best maritime centres. The agreement was signed by His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of “Dubai Ports World (DP World)” Chairman of “Dubai Maritime City Authority” and His Excellency Khalifa Bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Undersecretary of the Department of the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi.
H.E Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said: “We look forward to a positive change within the local maritime sector and activating its contribution to meet the needs of the ambitious development process. This is what we aspire to achieve through the signing of this strategic memorandum, which is a big step towards integration of maritime safety, navigation and operational efficiency along the local coasts to establish a renewed and secure maritime sector capable of meeting the requirements of sustainable economic development in Dubai and the UAE.
H.E Khalifa Bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Undersecretary of the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi, said: “This agreement reflects the vision of the strategic federal cooperation that we believe in and the commitment of the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi to working together with all stakeholders in the UAE. This will help achieve the objectives of the Abu Dhabi Plan and will enhance the quality of land and sea infrastructure to support the economic development of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in particular, and in addition to enhancing overall economic landscape in the UAE. I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to the Dubai Maritime City Authority and its keenness to support our joint efforts aimed at elevating the UAE’s status to become one of the world’s largest maritime communities.”
The agreement is based on the development of licensing procedures for maritime means, permits and maritime approvals, in order to implement the best procedures and provide services that achieve the happiness and satisfaction of the customers. It also aims to develop a mechanism of cooperation to deal with violations and marine accidents associated with all means of sea transport and water-powered motorbikes to ensure regulation and monitoring in the maritime sector. Under the MOC, both parties have agreed to activate joint efforts aimed at enhancing knowledge and developing Emirati cadres in the maritime transport sector, in line with the objectives of the Vision 2021 to harness the potential of the national capital.
The agreement further aims to develop licensing systems and procedures in both the Emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, in addition to providing the Department of Transport with the necessary information and services to enhance training and benefit from experiments. Both parties will exert joint efforts to achieve their desired goals in the maritime sector in various fields, with a focus on cooperation and effective partnership, which will contribute to improving government services in a way that serves the customers and achieve maximum levels of satisfaction and happiness for their services. In addition, they will work together in various ways to promote economic growth and improve the efficiency of the maritime entertainment sector, including leisure boats and yacht sector in the country.
