In the latest press release on M.T. ‘Desh Vaibhav’ issued on 14th August 2018, SCI reported that situation on board MT ‘Desh Vaibhav’ is totally under control and the vessel continues to be in full command.
All personnel who had left the vessel are back on board safely. Two casualties have been reported and are being sent ashore.
One injured crewman is being treated in the hospital at MUSCAT (OMAN). The vessel will be shortly shifted to the nearest port for assessment of damage and repairs.
Background:
SCI’s tanker vessel, M.T. ‘Desh Vaibhav’ on her way to Fujairah, UAE, reportedly suffered an explosion in one of her cargo tanks at around 0935 hours IST on 14th August 2018, off Oman coast.
As per preliminary information available with the company, 03 personnel are reported missing. One other person with burns is being evacuated by helicopter.
Assistance has been sought from the Oman Royal Navy and other ships in the vicinity. As per latest status, the fire has subsided and a firefighting vessel is expected to reach the vessel shortly to cool down the tanks.
