The world’s largest ship HMM Algeciras departed on its maiden voyage to Europe with a world record container load.
‘HMM Algeciras’ first entered the Busan New Port on the 28th of last month, loaded 7,156 TEU and departed on the 30th. After that, it arrived in Yantian on the 7th of this month via Ningbo and Shanghai, China, and headed to Europe with the largest shipment of 19,621 TEU on the 8th.
Algeciras is the world’s largest ship, capable of loading up to 24,000 containers of 6M length (1TEU), and considering the safe operation and cargo weight, the maximum limit is usually 19,600 TEU.
MSC’s 2,756TEU class ‘Gulsun’ previously held the record of the highest shipment at 1,9,574TEU, but ‘HMM Algeciras’ set a new world record as it departed with 19,621TEU.
An official from HMM said, “We were able to fill the cargo through active cooperation between the members of the Alliance, Hapak Lloyd, ONE, and Yangming.” “With the introduction of an ultra-large ship and full-scale cooperation with THE Alliance, “We will lead the reconstruction of the Korean shipping industry.”
In 2018, as part of the government’s ‘Five Years of Shipping Reconstruction’ in 2018, HMM signed a contract to build 20 large vessels of approximately 3,150 billion won with three Korean shipbuilders to proactively respond to market changes.
