Statements regarding a piracy incident were released by Mexico Naval Forces on Tuesday, stating an offshore vessel had been attacked by pirates on late hours of Monday (11th November).
The Italian Flagged offshore vessel named “Rema” belongs to Micoperi, an Italian offshore contractor.
According to the Mexican Navy, 2 crew members on board were injured; one crew member was shot and the other faced a severe head injury. Both were rushed to hospitals near the coast.
This incident occurred in the southern region of the Gulf of Mexico, which is infamous for its piracy and robbery attacks and which has seen a rise in attacks in the past few years.
From the local sources, it was found that during the incident, 35 crew members were on board and it was allegedly reported that the pirates arrived near the offshore vessel “Rema” in two small (fishing) ships.
