878 Indonesian crew members from MV Eurodam, a Netherlands flagged Holland American cruise ship, were repatriated by at Tanjung Priok Port, Indonesia.
The disembarkment happened in a phased manner, with the first phase seeing 434 crew vacate the ship and the second phase seeing 444 crew members exit.
The Carnival owned cruise was headed for Jakarta after going from Singapore to Bali and was anchored 2-3 miles off International Container Terminal II(JICT II).
All the 434 disembarking the ship on Wednesday, were taken to a hotel in Central Jakarta to carry out COVID tests.
News agency Antara reported that those who vacated the ship on Thursday were escorted to 2 separate hotels.
“If they test positive, they will be taken to the hospital. If they are negative, they will be allowed to go home,” said operation leader Brigadier General Hermanto.
This makes The Eurodam the 15th cruise ship to be evacuated by the Indonesian government to be successfully evacuated, with help from different inter-governmental agencies, taking the total number of Indonesians repatriated to 23,297.
Indonesian seafarers have been returning home in quite a good number recently. This was majorly taking place through 5 entry points in Jakarta and Bali, which included Indonesian crew stranded in above 30 countries.
