Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), Goa will welcome 470 Indians on board the Norwegian cruise liner, Norwegian Escape, and will be the first Indian port to host the cruise liner.
The cruise ship is then scheduled for a visit to Mumbai, where it will lead the disembarkation process of other Indian crewmembers.
The ship is carrying seafarers, who’d been stranded in various European ports. Reports are that the ship has crossed the Suez Canal and is en route to Goa, India. It is expected to be in Goa by Sunday night.
After arrival, testing of the seafarers will be done and they’ll be sent to the ship again, awaiting the test results. Once they test negative, they’ll move forward with home quarantine.
Marine Insight had reported how 1,450 seafarers had disembarked at MPT last week. The testing procedure that had been followed for the 1,450 seafarers will be the same that will be done on Sunday. All the 1450 seafarers had tested negative for the virus previously.
The cruise liner was supposed to go directly to Mumbai and the company wasn’t agreeing to bring the seafarers directly to Goa.” said P.S Reddy, ports secretary for stranded seafarers.
It was the constant push by the port authorities that persuaded the cruise line to call on MPT first before Mumbai.
