Gulf Livestock 1: Reward Of $70000 Offered By Families For Information On Missing Seafarers

Family members of seafarers from the Gulf Livestock 1 are offering a hefty award for information that leads them to their loved ones. They just want to find their family – dead or alive.

The Gulf Livestock 1 capsized in the seas of southern Japan on September 2, amid a typhoon after facing engine difficulties. This enormous vessel sailing from Napier had a crew of 43 members out of which 39 were Filipino, two New Zealanders, and two Australians, they also carried around 5,800 live cows. Three out of the 43 crew members have been found, one was found dead, while two others were rescued alive. All three of the crewmen were Filipino. The other 36 Filipinos, two New Zealanders, and two Australians are still missing.

Still clinging to hope the mother of seafarer Scott Harris, Karen Adrian said “Families on both sides of the Tasman are committing their money to the $70,000 reward. We are driven and focussed to continue the search and we are committed to using any and all means at our disposal.”

She added that they firmly believed that the mariners were still alive and are probably waiting to be rescued after being washed up on nearby islands in their lifeboats.

Japanese Coastguard has subsided the search since 10 September, prompting the family members of the crew to resort to such a means.
