In a recent announcement, Singapore has banned crew change for seafarers with recent travel history to India as a result of the huge spike of COVID-19 cases in the country.
The circular states that the following crew change will not be allowed in the Port of Singapore and is effective from 23rd April 2021, 2359 hours:
- Crew with recent travel history to India within the last 14 days preceding arrival to Singapore. This includes sign-on crew travelling to Singapore by flight as well as sign-off crew from vessels that have called in India.
- Sign-on crew transiting India on their connecting flights to Singapore.

The decision will have a huge impact as Singapore is a global maritime hub and the industry majorly relies on Indian crew.
Other countries like Dubai are also looking to put restrictions on people travelling from India, which might further lead to a major crew change crises similar to the one faced last year.
