Hyundai Heavy Industries Group will show off a large number of next-generation green ship technologies such as carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen, and ammonia at Gastech, a global gas event.

Hyundai Heavy Industries Group announced that it will participate in ‘Gastech 2021’ to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) from the 21st (Tue) to the 23rd (Thu). At this exhibition, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group will exhibit scaled-down models of gas carriers, such as LNG carriers and LPG carriers, and introduce the next-generation ship technology developed in-house.

In particular, at this event, the three shipbuilders of the Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, are:

• Large liquefied carbon dioxide carriers
• Liquid hydrogen cargo operation system
• Large ammonia propulsion/carriers
• Small and medium-sized LNG FSRU (floating gas storage and recovery)

The 40,000 cubic meter (㎥) liquefied carbon dioxide carrier developed by Hyundai Heavy Industries Group this time is the world’s largest, and it is equipped with a cargo storage system and cargo operation system that can stably preserve cargo by maintaining tank pressure during operation. IndustryARC, a global market research institute, predicted that the CCUS market will grow at an average annual rate of 29.2% from this year to reach $25.3 billion in 2026.

In addition, the liquid hydrogen cargo operating system, a core technology of the hydrogen carrier developed by Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, can reuse hydrogen boil-off gas generated during operation as fuel for power generation by applying a stable pressurized tank, and the import terminal is equipped with a regasification system. Even if there is no hydrogen supply, it is possible to supply hydrogen to consumers.

The ammonia propulsion/carrier was developed in large size of 91,000 cubic meters (㎥) to reflect the gas carrier market demand, and the LNG FSRU is designed to be 40,000 cubic meters (㎥) suitable for small-scale LNG projects.

In addition, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group signed an MOU with Lloyd’s Register of the UK at this event and strengthened cooperation to commercialize the digital twin ship solution (HiDTS) that implements ships in cyberspace from design, commissioning, and operation stages. going out
