DSME Wins Order For Two LNG Carriers From Greek Ship Owners

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (CEO Lee Seong-geun) announced on the 11th that it has won an order for two LNG carriers from Maran Gas Maritime, a subsidiary of the Angelicoussis Group, the largest shipping company in Greece. These ships will be built at the Okpo Shipyard and delivered to the owner by the second half of 2024. In addition, the contract includes two additional options, so additional orders are expected in the future.

The LNG carrier ordered this time is a large 174,000m3 class LNG carrier, equipped with a dual fuel propulsion engine (ME-GI) and a more advanced re-liquefaction system (Gas Management System), which is the main culprit of greenhouse gas emissions. It is an eco-friendly, high-efficiency vessel that can respond to stricter greenhouse gas emission regulations by significantly reducing gas emissions to the atmosphere.

With this contract, the relationship between Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Angelicoussis Group is once again in the spotlight.

Angelicoussis Group is the largest customer of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, ordering 112 ships from the first contract in 1994 until this contract. In particular, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has placed infinite trust in Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, placing orders for 36 ships only after 2015, when Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) began to suffer from the worst order cliff situation in history.
