On Sunday, Rajnath Singh, the Defense Minister declared that Indo-Pacific being a crucial route is essential for the world economy and it’s the key objective of India’s Navy to ensure that it is safe and secure. He added that the whole world is trying to increase Military power in the future years and expenditure on the defense budget is also expected to rise. The nation has started focusing on building an indigenous ship-building hub.

Singh continued to say that of the 41 ships ordered by the Indian Navy, 38 were developed in our country. It is the perfect instance of indigenization.

On Sunday morning, Mr. Singh commissioned the INS Visakhapatnam at Mumbai. INS Visakhapatnam is India’s first-ever stealth-guided missile destroyer vessel. It is part of Project 15B.

INS Visakhapatnam has been built deploying DMR 249A – indigenous steel – and is among the mammoth destroyers ever built in the country with a displacement of more than 7,400 tons.

The ship has significant indigenous content of about 75 percent contributing toward AtmaNirbhar Bharat. The vessel is a potent platform empowered to undertake multifarious maritime warfare missions.

Visakhapatnam is enabled with a plethora of smart sensors and weapons that comprise surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missiles, short- and mid-range guns, anti-submarine rockets, electronic warfare, and smart communication suits.

The ship deploys a robust combined gas and gas propulsion mechanism. These augment her speed to more than 30 knots. It can also embark on two integrated helicopters to extend its reach.

The ship boasts high-level automation with next-gen digital networks, integrated platform management, and combat management systems.
