A fire on a ship carrying timber from Gothenburg was not in control even on Sunday after over 24 hours, the authorities reported.
The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency popular as MSB said that it had sent two helicopters, while organizations and authorities, including the Coast Guard, were fighting the fire.
The vessel’s timber, cargo had caught fire on Saturday. While the ship was not exactly burning, the fire was not easy to extinguish, MSB mentioned in a statement.
The ship is loaded with a significant amount of fuel. MSB has begun preparing with resources to provide support if there is a leak.
TT, the news agency reported that a crew of 17 members had not been evacuated from the vessel. It named the vessel the Almirante Storni. Per Refinitiv Eikon data, it sails with a Liberian flag.
A Swedish coast guard spokesperson has said that they cannot claim that the fire is in control, but it hasn’t spread. This was backed by them adding that the work might continue for some days.
