Fire that had begun on a cargo ship on Saturday transporting timber off Sweden’s west coast continued to rage on, authorities said. However, it could not spread to the vessel itself.
Multiple organizations, including the Swedish coast guard (SWC), are now fighting the fire on the Almirante Storni. The vessel is currently anchored in Gothenburg.
A coast guard spokesman mentioned that drones were used to monitor the fire. There have been no signs of injuries although extreme weather conditions have made the job hard.
He added that the situation is worrying. As time passes, the weather continues to be tough at the site. He also observed that the fuel tanks have, so far, not been affected and there is no threat in terms of an oil spill.
A crew of 17 members has not been cleared from the vessel that sails with the Liberian flag.
