A 43-year-old employee appointed by a private contractor to work at Chennai Port lost his life of suffocation when he had been spraying pesticides in storerooms of a commercial vessel that was headed toward Vietnam.
The victim was named Ramasamy. He belongs to the Virudhunagar district. Jagadeesan and Ramasamy were appointed by a private contractor for spraying pesticides on commercial carriers carrying food items.
On Tuesday, the police said that the two men were spraying pesticide inside rooms loaded with corn, which was being transported to Vietnam. As the two had been locked inside, the crew members discovered them in an unconscious state. They had been immediately moved to a private hospital. There, Ramasamy was declared to have been brought dead.
Jegadeesan, however, regained sense after going through treatment at a hospital located in Teynampet. A case has been filed with the Port police.
