Asahi Tanker held a naming and launching ceremony for the Pure Battery Electric Propulsion Tanker. This ship is an electric propulsion tanker powered by a large-capacity lithium-ion battery planned by e5 Lab Co., Ltd.
It is a ship that considers the working environment of crew members and the environment around the port by achieving zero emissions of SOx, soot, etc., reducing the environmental load, and suppressing noise and vibration.
The vessel is named “Asahi” and is scheduled to enter service in Tokyo Bay as a marine fuel supply vessel after completion and delivery in late March 2022. In March 2023, Imura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Komatsushima City, Tokushima Prefecture) plans to complete the second pure battery-electric propulsion tanker.

(2) Improvement of working environment | By electrifying the internal combustion engine of the main engine, not only the labor of engine maintenance can be reduced, but also the working environment on board can be improved compared to the conventional ship by eliminating vibration and noise. |
(3) Ship design | The design of the ship is supervised by Ichibansen Co., Ltd. With the design concept of “Toward the sea of a new era with the red of the sum of passion,” the ship was given a sense of dynamism and color. |
(4) New added value | By utilizing the electricity stored in the large-capacity battery on board as an emergency on land in the event of a natural disaster, we will play a new role that will contribute to the contribution of local BCP (Business Continuity Plan) and LCP (Life Continuity Plan). increase. |
Through the development and introduction of advanced vessels such as electric propulsion vessels, we will work on improving the working environment of crew members and preserving the global environment, which are urgent issues for domestic shipping, and realize a sustainable shipping industry. We will also contribute to Japan’s society and economy by providing safer and higher quality transportation services.
