Cargo Ship Breaks Into Two After Running Aground Off Crete; 2 Crew Members Rushed To Hospital

A cargo ship named the Manassa Rose with a Comoros Island flag had reportedly run aground on Tuesday off the northwestern coast of Crete. It has now broken in half. The cause is that the vessel was totally battered by strong waves.

The ship reportedly broke into two after 10 members of the crew had been evacuated by some volunteer lifeguards, coast guard officers, and crew members of two other ships that had promptly responded to the distress signal sent out by the ship captain.

Two of 10 members have been taken to a hospital with symptoms of severe water aspiration and hypothermia.

The vessel was on its way to Libya after it set sail from Turkey amid one of the most dangerous blizzards that hit the location in decades when it had run aground near the mouth of the bay of Kissamos.

It had been carrying a shipment of metal.
