A British sailor associated with the 90-meter ship, Scot Carrier, was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to a prison term lasting 1.5 years following a ship collision in the Baltic Sea, in December 2021. Two Danish seafarers had lost their lives in the accident, Danish police reported on Thursday.
The 30-year-old British sailor was on duty when the 55-meter Karin Hoj collided with Scot Carrier in darkness and heavy fog off the island of Bornholm in Denmark. Two members of the crew aboard the Karin Hoj lost their lives due to the collision.
The sailor was drunk when he was keeping watch during the time of the incident. He, however, did not contest any charges. A Copenhagen city court gave the sailor a 12-year entry ban to Denmark along with a temporary ban to sail in the Danish waters, Danish police informed.
