Video: Construction Of Carnival China’s First New Build Is More Than 65% Finished

Currently, in construction at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard, the first new build of Carnival China is 66.8% done.

This update was shared at the 15th China Cruise Shipping Conference (CCS15), held earlier in August in Guangzhou.

Per a presentation by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), the organization that operates the shipyard where the 135,000-tonne ship is currently being built, the assignment is making massive progress.

Currently referred to as H1508, the 5,000-passenger ship was introduced in 2021 (December) before it started the key engines for the first time in 2022 (July).

The vessel is now undergoing interior fittings before it embarks on the first set of sea trials scheduled for 2023 (May).

Per the presentation, the ship’s delivery is scheduled for 2023 (July).

A second cruise vessel for Carnival China is currently under construction at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard.

The overall construction progress of the vessel, the facility mentioned, is now at 7.12%.

Following the provisional title H1509, the ship is expected to be introduced in 2024 (September) before being successfully delivered the following year.

The ship is said to be larger than the original series, with an increase of 17 meters in length.

Both vessels are going to be operated by a joint venture between CSSC and Carnival Corporation.

All prepared to serve China’s domestic market, the brand reportedly commissioned the new buildings in 2016. At the time, the construction contract included the option to accommodate four additional vessels.

With a design based on the Vista Class of Carnival Cruise Line, the vessels will be tailored for the domestic market by featuring both Western and Chinese styling trends.

In 2018, the joint venture revealed its plans to purchase two used Costa Cruises vessels.

Now based in Cyprus, Costa Mediterranea and Costa Atlantica were handed over to the new brand by 2021.
