Following a directive from the high court, the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has reportedly released the cargo vessel Hansa Rendsburg 36 days after the ship suddenly hit a gantry crane at the port, on Tuesday, after paying the Tk 3.62 crore as security money. The high court levied the fine.
Following the High Court order of Bangladesh, the lawyer deposited a pay order as security in BDT 3,62,73,720 in favour of the CPA Chittagong for the cost incurred at NCT-5 Jetty by the MV Hansa Rendsburg, Aminul Islam, who is the Chief Engineer of CPA stated via a letter to the L&B Hansa Feederschifff GmbH & KG.

The German-based shipping firm Hapag Lloyd reportedly rented the Hansa Rendsburg for transporting various containers via the Chattogram-Colombo channel.
On 28 September, the CPA reportedly seized the vessel after hitting a gantry crane at the port as it was unloading containers and then sent it to the outer anchorage.
The relevant port authorities reportedly formed a probe committee spearheaded by the CPA Workshop Manager, Mostafa Iqbal, to determine these damages.
L&B Hansa Feederschiffe GmbH & Co KG, MV Hansa Rendsburg’s owner, in the meanwhile, lodged a case with the high court against the chairman of the port, claiming recovery of damages and losses owing to wrongful detention of the vessel and negligence.
The high court ordered the ship’s owner to deposit a bank draft of the stated amount, after which the CPA would have to let the vessel go.
The appointed inquiry committee shared the report on the losses related to the gantry crane and damages on 11 October. Based on the report, Aminul Islam reportedly claimed about $3.94 lakh in the demurrage on 20 October, to be paid in three days. The shipping firm deposited the draft, which was successfully liquidated on 1 November.
