Ground-Breaking Cadet Conference From Sailors’ Society Arrives In The Philippines

The Philippines is the next venue for Sailors’ Society’s ground-breaking global wellness and mental health conferences, designed exclusively for maritime college cadets.

In a first for the industry, the international maritime charity is hosting its online Wellness at Sea Maritime Schools’ Conference in the Philippines, allowing cadets there to explore the all-important subject of wellbeing and mental health as they embark on their seafaring careers.

Taking place on November 5, this is the third in a series of unique virtual Wellness at Sea events. Previous events for Indian and African cadets were hailed as overwhelming successes, with more than 2,000 participants registered in total.

Sara Baade, Sailors’ Society CEO, said: “Today’s cadets are tomorrow’s workforce and future leaders. Seafaring is an amazing career but it presents its own set of unique challenges – so crew wellness must be cared for right from the start.

“Our Wellness at Sea Maritime Schools’ Conferences draw on our pioneering wellness training and support programme, equipping cadets with the tools to manage their wellbeing and knowledge of how to access help should they need it.”
The conferences have a bespoke mix of international and local industry experts and focus on key issues facing cadets today, including crises, such as the war in Ukraine, and diversity.

Following the Philippines event, Sailors’ Society is also offering a downloadable package of recorded presentations from a full programme of experts for maritime schools based in Europe.

This flexible package, which will fit around the curriculum constraints of the European schools, will allow the maximum number of participants to benefit from the expertise of speakers and the support offered by Sailors’ Society.
