Georgian Container Ship ‘KAPPA’ Disabled In Bosporus

A Georgian container vessel was reportedly disabled in Bosporus after it suffered engine failure at about 1955 UTC on 18 November in front of Kandilli, as it was transiting the Strait toward the north, en route to Novorossiysk from Ambarli.

Container Ship KAPPA was located at BSEA – Marmara Sea, reported by the Terrestrial Automatic Identification System of a leading shipping source on 19 November.

The vessel is at port Istanbul Anch. The next stop is Novorossiysk.

The wind in this area blows from the Southwest at force 5 Beaufort.

KAPPA is a container vessel built in 2007 (about 15 years ago) flying Turkey’s flag.

The ship was understood to be anchored; traffic was probably suspended. It began to move around 2100 UTC, was towed back to the Marmara Sea, and then anchored at Ahirkapi Anchorage at about 2340 UTC. It stayed in the same position as of 0420 UTC on 19 November.

The carrying capacity is about 1100 TEU, and the current draught is approximately 9.3 meters. She measures 147.87 meters in terms of her length overall (LOA), and the width is about 23.25 meters.
