Cargo Ship Captain Dies Onboard, Cause Of Death Remains A Mystery

The captain of a crude oil tanker MT Wen Yao died onboard the vessel when it was on its way to the United Arab Emirates from the Port of Singapore.

The coastal police of the Kochi Fort filed a case of unnatural death after the captain was reported dead onboard the vessel off the coast of the island of Kavaratti, Lakshadweep.

The captain of the Panama-flagged crude oil tanker, Salim Khan was 43 and hailed from Uttar Pradesh, India.

Per the police, the time of his death was reported to be 11:15 am, Tuesday when the vessel was sailing by the Kavaratti island. It was heading to the UAE.

On Wednesday, the ship went to the outer anchorage area of the Port of Cochin.

Then the police boarded the ship and investigated. The captain’s body was taken to the morgue of Ernakulam General Hospital, and the autopsy is scheduled for today.

According to the crew members, the captain was alright. He had gas and digestion issues and slight chest pain. Despite taking treatment on the vessel, he died.

The coastal police officer mentioned that the ship would be allowed to go only after the autopsy reports came in.
