‘Make In India’ Gets A Boost As Defence Ministry Signs Multiple Deals Worth Rs 37600 Crore

The Indian Ministry of Defense took pride on Thursday in demonstrating their commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ campaign by awarding contracts worth Rs 37,600 crore.

The Rs 5,498 crore agreement for Akash Missile System maintenance was included, as was a deal with BEL for Electronic Warfare Suite Equipment designed for medium-lift helicopters.

Furthermore, BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited was awarded a contract for the purchase of Next Generation Maritime Mobile Coastal Batteries (Long Range) worth Rs 1,700 crore; deliveries are expected to begin in 2027.

Furthermore, 11 Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and six Next Generation Missile Vessels worth Rs 19,600 crore have been assigned to Indian shipyards, with shipments beginning in September 2026.

In addition, Bharat Dynamics Limited received an offer for an advanced Akash Weapon System and 12 Weapon Locating Radars (WLR Swathi) totaling over Rs 9,100 crore, with 82% domestic components already included with plans to increase them to 93% by 2026-27.

Finally, BEL was given the opportunity to pay more than Rs 1,700 crore for 13 Lynx-U2 Fire Control Systems designed specifically for the Indian Navy; the system can identify/engage air/surface targets even in difficult conditions such as sea clutter.
