A large shipping group states that vessel owners still have great interest in transporting Ukraine’s grain via the Black Sea if they can mitigate the risks.
Russia has attacked ports of Ukraine this week, especially the ones that are key to sending out grains to the world, and announced large swaths of the Black Sea hazardous for shipping. An International Chamber of Shipping official mentioned that the whole industry has been resilient when considering such risks.
Continued shipments will be based on vessels receiving insurance and how the safety and security risks pan out, including if the threats are that serious. An international marine insurers group said that it is likely that the underwriters would be unwilling to cover those risks.
