At Lagos, Nigeria, on 6 July, 24kgs of cocaine were found on the bulk carrier dubbed the COOPER ISLAND. The vessel is arrested or detained. Its crew comprising 20 individuals, including the Master, are imprisoned, understood that they have to be on board, similar to a home arrest.
The vessel reached Brazil on 4 July and will be under detention until the completion of the examination.
The Nigerian police were also alarmed by international security services like Interpol. No details were shared about the site where the drugs were found or whether or not the crew members may have been involved.
Relevant Nigerian authorities also mention that the crew members are cooperative. Hope it is going to end on a good note for the crew members, and they will not be kept as hostages.
