U.S. Navy Awards $95 Million Order To Leidos For Management Of Its Uncrewed Surface Vessels

Tech major Leidos was awarded a new task order extended by the Naval Sea Systems Command to manage, operate, and maintain the U.S. Navy’s Overlord’s medium-sized unmanned surface vessels (abbreviated as the USVs).

The single-award task order bears a one-year base phase of performance and two year-long options. The task order has a max value of about $95 million if all options are properly exercised.

Leidos is leading a new era of naval operations, mentioned Gerry Fasano, the president of Leidos Defense Group.

The Leidos team has unparalleled experience as well as expertise in autonomous vessel operations and design, delivering four operational medium USV platforms to the Navy until now. They look forward to helping the Navy boost the essential work and extending new capabilities, especially at the spear’s tip.

The task order marks a crucial phase in evolving the Navy’s USVs and integrating them into key, distributed maritime operations, mentioned Dave Lewis, Leidos Defense Group’s senior VP and Maritime Systems operations manager.

He added that the power of this tech lies in its capability to operate and extend the horizon of crewed vessels. They look forward to supporting the Navy as they continue the critical journey into the future.

Leidos has also delivered four operational and medium-sized USVs currently in the Navy’s fleet: Sea Hunter, Ranger, Mariner, and Seahawk. The contract will expand Leidos’ experience in managing USV maintenance and operations.
