SAIC Motor‘s first-ever deep sea car carrier has been launched in the historic Shanghai shipyard, Jiangnan. The vessel will be put into operation in 2024 and will carry about 7,600 vehicles, the carmaker revealed on Tuesday, adding that the diesel- and LNG-powered vessel is going to be deployed on the manufacturer’s line to Europe, which began its operations in 2020 and New Zealand and Australia.
The MG brand owner plans to add 12 carriers to the shipping firm’s fleet within three years. The future vessels in the SAIC Anji Logistics Co fleet will be able to load 7,800, 7,600, and 9,000 vehicles based on the vessel type.
SAIC added that it will continue the cooperation with the largest shipping firm in the world, Cosco, and also the owner of the greatest ro-ro vessel in the world, the Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
SAIC Motor has been the number one Chinese exporter for seven years, with MG that comes under its wing, being the top exporting brand in the nation for the past four years.
In 2022, SAIC Motor exported about 1.017 million vehicles, 45.9% more compared to the year before.

At the same time, MG has boosted its exports to Europe by 148% on a year-over-year basis by selling about 135,000 vehicles. In Australia, it reportedly stabilized among the top 10 with 35,000 units in January to July sales.
SAIC Motor’s logistics wing, Anji, owns the nation’s greatest car-carrier fleet. The logistics major boasts 11 river vessels, 11 domestic trade vessels, and eight international trade vessels. Besides, it has operational sea lines to Mexico, Southeast Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

In 2023, Shenzhen EV maker aided orders for four additional LNG and diesel-powered pure car truck carriers (abbreviated PCTC) that can load almost 9,400 vehicles each. The future fleet must save a significant amount of money, as it was disclosed that Geely pays $1,300 to $1,500 for each Emgrand exported to South America.
