The Russian Governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, said nobody was injured outside the burning building.
The Crimean Peninsula, considered to be illegally annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014, has been a major target of attack since Russia invaded Ukraine 19 months ago.
The military of Ukraine claimed responsibility with the airforce commander, Mykola Oleschuk, saying, “We promised that ‘there will be more.”
He thanked the pilots in a social media post and showed a video of smoke coming from the building engulfed in flames.
Russian Governor of Sevastopol urged the residents to stay away from the accident site as missile fragments could be near.
In another post, he expressed the possibility of another attack and urged the city’s inhabitants to remain indoors.
He mentioned that firefighters are taking all measures to extinguish the fire as soon as possible.
On Friday, Moscow’s Governor of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, said that many cruise missiles had been shot down by Russian Air Defense over Crimea.
Ukrainian and Russian attacks in the Black Sea region have risen since Moscow backed out from an agreement allowing the safe passage of civilian cargo vessels from Ukrainian ports.
Ukraine has asked its allies to provide it with long-range missiles to carry further attacks on Russia. Although many Western countries are concerned that Ukraine’s attacks could escalate the situation, France and the UK have supplied Ukraine with weapons.
Earlier this week, Ukraine admitted to having attacked a military airfield near Saky Town. There were around a dozen warplanes and Pantsir missile defence systems at the airfield during the attack.
Ukraine used unmanned aerial vehicles that weakened Russian air defence, and then they launched Neptune cruise missiles.
At the airfield was also a training centre for drone operators employed by Russia to target Ukraine.
Kyiv has also hit the only bridge linking the Crimea Peninsula with the Russian Mainland. The last major attack took place in July, affecting the road section of the bridge, which also accommodates rail traffic used for transporting military supplies and equipment.
Traffic on the bridge has been temporarily halted, said Russian officials.
