Teenage Girl Found Hiding On Ship Sailing To Africa 12 Days After Disappearance

A Scots teen who mentioned she was headed to the pictures was discovered on a 3,000-ton ship to Africa.

Isobel Scott, 15, from Edinburgh, headed to the Leith Docks rather than the cinema on 6 January 1957 and was not seen for 12 days.

Her parents launched frantic appeals to trace the teen. However, there wasn’t any trace of her in the capital city, per reports of Edinburgh Live.

The girl was found hiding on a cargo vessel that had set sail for western Morocco’s Casablanca that she managed to board based in Leith.

The ship’s crew members saw her hiding in the quarters of the Panamanian cargo steamer. One London-based newspaper from the time described how Isobel had shared a joke and cigarette with the ship’s crew.

A massive effort was put into place by the ship’s captain of the vessel to return her to her dad in the UK, who was waiting for her at Dover.

A small pilot cutter transported Isobel to dry land, but the girl refused to mention the reason for her escape.
