China has asserted that spies of the UK’s secret intelligence service, MI6, bugged the Apple smartwatch of a high-ranking Chinese Navy Officer at Guang Dong’s command, which helped them track the Chinese submarine that recently faced a failure in the Yellow Sea, leaving 55 sailors dead.
Daily Mail cited dissidents based out of China who somehow got copies of the investigation into the incident, opened by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). However, China and Taiwan denied the loss of the submarine.
Per a confidential UK intelligence report, the PLA Navy submarine 093-417 stumbled on a chain and anchor trap meant for western sub-surface vessels. Those onboard died due to a malfunction in the submarine’s oxygen systems, which poisoned the entire crew, per the report.
The CCP claims that the bugging of the smartwatch led to the leak of the Chinese Navy submarine ‘093-417’ accident.
A dissident told the Dailymail, “ This report has been given to President Xi Jinping. They want to find a scapegoat with foreign connections and believe the watch was used to record conversations about the submarine in a naval headquarters.”
Before, China accused the West of spying on its Navy’s operations. It also turned down international help for the stranded submarine, which had been in service for less than 15 years.
Per reports, among those killed were the captain of the submarine and 21 officers.
