Gujarat’s Mundra Port has completed 25 years of operations, reflecting its evolution and expansion as one of the biggest ports in the world.

Since berthing the first vessel, MT Alpha, on 7 October 1998, the port has been striving continuously to position itself as one of the most technologically advanced and premier ports on the world map.

A release mentioned that the Mundra Port has ascended to great prominence since its inception and contributed more than Rs. 2.25 lakh crore to the state and national exchequer over the past 25 years.

From a handful of tons in 1998, Mundra handled about 100 MMT in 2014, the first in India to execute it.

Currently, the port handles more than 155 MMT (again, the first time in India), constituting almost 11% of the Indian maritime cargo.

Mundra is also a well-known export-import gateway for container traffic. About 33% of the Indian container traffic flows via the port across a dedicated freight corridor that presents the unique facility of double-stack containers to Mundra from the northern hinterland.

Adani Group Chair Gautam Adani said that Mundra is much more than a mere port for him. It’s the beachhead of a horizon of golden opportunities for the Adani Group. Twenty-five years back, when they embarked on the journey, they dreamt of a beacon that would successfully represent the country’s march forward. Karan Adani, the CEO and Whole Time Director, said that what was once barren is currently India’s EXIM gateway and an excellent global hub for facilitating trade and commerce. He confidently states that the company has succeeded in building a powerful catalyst for the country’s growth – and He believes that the journey has just started.

Mundra Port reportedly serves the northern hinterland with smooth, multimodal connectivity.

Spread over about 35,000 acres, Mundra boasts next-gen facilities, including the largest natural gas, coal, and auto terminals.
