According to Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman associated with the Ukrainian military, an explosion destroyed the patrol ship “Pavel Derzhavin,” which is part of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. This information was shared with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty on 12 October.
Pletenchuk finally acknowledged that there were explosions and consequent damages, but he was unable to provide further information regarding the occurrence or the amount of damage.

Regarding whether damage to the Pavel Derzhavin resulted from a Ukrainian strike, the spokesperson remained silent.
Posts made earlier on 11 October on the Crimean Wind Telegram channel in the area included reports of ship damages and sounds of explosions.
Russian naval forces in the Black Sea have suffered what James Heappey, the U.K. Armed Forces Minister, labelled a “functional defeat” because of repeated strikes by Ukrainian forces since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
On 12 October, the General Staff of Ukraine reported that Russia had lost 20 navy vessels.
Additionally, the command of the Black Sea Fleet on land was targeted by Ukrainian strikes. At least 34 Russian personnel, reportedly, including Admiral Viktor Sokolov, the commander of the Black Sea Fleet, were killed when Ukraine reportedly used a Storm Shadow missile supplied by the U.K. to strike the Black Sea Fleet’s headquarters based in Sevastopol, occupied Crimea.
