Russia Destroys 300,000 Tons Of Ukrainian Grain Since July In Port & Ship Attacks

Ukraine’s Government has stated that Russia has destroyed approximately 300,000 metric tons of grain by attacking its ports and ships since July, highlighting the situation could lead to issues of food security.

In the summer, Russia backed out from the U.N. brokered agreement allowing the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea. Since then, Russia has hit six civilian ships and 150 port and grain storage facilities in 17 attacks, destroying the produce meant for export, Deputy P.M Oleksandr Kubrakov mentioned in a statement.

This is Moscow’s attempt to exacerbate the food crisis in countries dependent on Ukrainian grain and other products. Ukraine is one of the biggest wheat and corn exporters in the world.

The damage to Ukrainian ports has reduced Ukraine’s grain export potential by 40%.

Per reports, 21 grain-loaded ships have used the new humanitarian grain corridor in the Black Sea that Ukraine established in August.

Under the previous Black Sea Grain Initiative, Ukraine exported 33 million tonnes of grain, 60% of which went to countries in Africa and Asia.
