Indian Navy Keeping A Close Eye On Chinese Navy In Indian Ocean Region, Says Vice Admiral

The Indian Navy has been monitoring the crucial developments going on in West Asia and, at the same time, keeping a watch on the activities of the Chinese Navy in the Indian Ocean Region (abbreviated the IOR) by the hour, a Navy officer mentioned on Wednesday about escalating the Hamas-Israel conflict.

Answering a series of questions during the Global Maritime India Summit this year, Vice Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, who leads the Western Naval Command, mentioned that the Navy is aware of China’s activities in the IOR or the potential ripple impacts of different happenings in West Asia.

He explained that someone at the naval or the command headquarters is constantly working on what could happen after whatever is taking place in West Asia (with reference to the Hamas-Israel war).

The vice admiral said that as far as the Chinese are concerned, we are keeping a sharp watch on whatever they are doing in the South China Sea.

In the Indian Ocean, we are maintaining a sharp watch as to where their research vessel, spy vessel, satellite tracking vessel, war vessel are wherever they are by the hour, said Vice Admiral Tripathi while answering questions.

Earlier speaking at the event, the senior naval commander also mentioned that piracy has been one of the continuous challenges in the past 10 to 15 years; it is contained through international coordination and cooperation.

Nityanand Rai, the Union Minister of the State for Home Affairs, said that with India’s evolving stature, its responsibility in the Indian Ocean has also been increasing.

On the occasion, S Paramesh, the Additional Director General associated with the Indian Coast Guard, emphasized collectively boosting the sharing of crucial information for improved threat assessment and coordinated response.

Investments in tech like unmanned drones and satellite surveillance will boost maritime security efforts, per Paramesh.

Hostilities between Hamas and Israel began after the armed Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip started an unforeseen attack on Israel by air, land, and sea on 7 October. Since the beginning of hostilities, close to 2,778 Palestinians have been killed.

Media reports have reportedly cited official Israeli sources to say that nearly 1,400 Israelis and foreign nationals have lost their lives in Israel.
