Unloading Of Cranes At Vizhinjam Port Delayed As Chinese Ship Awaits Emigration Clearance

For the third day in a straight, the Chinese cargo vessel “Zhen Hua 15” awaits the emigration clearance for members to unload huge cranes at the Vizhinjam Port.

Since the vessel’s technical staff was not able to secure the emigration clearance, the cranes are still left to be unloaded into the berth. Due to the rough sea conditions, the ship’s crew members postponed the initial plans to unload the cranes on Tuesday. Irrespective of ideal scenarios on Wednesday, the crew members failed to receive clearance.

The vessel is reportedly scheduled to depart from the port on 21 October, according to a deal signed with the shipping major. If the cranes aren’t unloaded by the deadline, the port must pay a huge sum for the vessel to remain berthed.

Currently, the vessel has about 35 workers from China. For unloading the cranes, some technical staff of the crew must be able to visit the berth. The authorities, however, are yet to permit the same.

In the meantime, the relevant ship authorities submitted a letter to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (abbreviated the FRRO) on Wednesday.

The Home Ministry issues the emigration permit. However, as the port is under development, Vizhinjam has no emigration checkpoint. As a result, the emigration officials point out that there are lawful obstacles to issuing permissions to crew members under current standards.
