5 Dead In North Sea Ship Collision After Search For 4 Missing Seafarers Called Off

Rescue vessels and aircraft that participated in the search could not locate four missing members on Tuesday, and the divers were sent down to the wreck site of the Verity to see if there were signs of life but could not see anything.

Officials said that the water temperature during the collision was about 12C and that experience has shown that individuals can survive for nearly 20 hours.

Germany’s Central Command for Maritime Emergencies stated the whole sea area where missing sailors could be was searched again at night without any results, and the rescuers halted the search.

It further mentioned that search and rescue efforts on the surface won’t resume on Wednesday. Still, the emergency command will consider measures to be taken around the accident site during the day.

The larger cargo vessel involved in the collision – the Bahamas-flagged ship Polesie, with 22 individuals on board – could reach Germany’s port of Cuxhaven under its steam.

There hasn’t been a word regarding the reason behind the collision.
