Per reports, 20 containers and some unspecified “assorted freight”, fell into the waters on 27th October at the Iqaluit port anchorage in Frobisher Bay, to the southeast Baffin Island in Canada.
The general cargo vessel dubbed SIVUMUT reached the Iqaluit anchorage on 23 October from Becancour in Canada and was conducting cargo operations.
It is understood that containers and freighter did not fall from the ship but from the lighter barge deployed in the SIVUMUT cargo handling.
The Canadian Coast Guard, as well as the Nunavut Eastern Artic Shipping (abbreviated NEAS), started its operation for recovering containers as well as assorted freight.
