Korean Register has announced the launch of an education and training program for those in the shipping industry.
Called KR-Real360, it is an extended reality-based solution that offers vital information to users, which aids in ship operations and maintenance by utilising the new XR technology.
One can find several resources ranging from checklists, survey information and operational manuals in various formats like text, images, videos and PDFs within the vessel’s virtual reality environment, made available by using 360-degree images.
KIM Daeheon, Executive Vice President of KR’s R&D division, said the team tried to make this program more realistic and will work to the best of its ability to offer technical guidance and help the shipping industry in applying the new technologies in line with the trends of decarbonisation and maritime digitalisation.
Per experts, the KR-Real360 will be a promising tool which will respond to changes quickly while aiding with conventional ship education and training.
It has many other notable features as well, such as the option to tour the ship, a customised route setting option and a text-to-speech function that converts text to voice.
