Under the suspicion that a U.S military ship was carrying weapons, pro-Palestinian demonstrators interfered with operations at the Ports of Oakland and Tacoma.
In Oakland, about fifty protestors attempted to stop the ship from leaving while chanting slogans.
The ship was empty and regularly visited the port, according to union officials and authorities, despite the organisers’ claims that they had received information about its cargo from a confidential source.
The ship, Cape Orlando, eventually departed the port after police intervened and took three demonstrators into custody.
These incidents took place amid a conflict that has been raging in Gaza ever since Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel on October 7.
Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protestors gathered in Tacoma, demanding a halt to hostilities and a review of US foreign policy, including funding to Israel.
The Pentagon acknowledged that the ship was used to transport US military supplies, despite some people thinking it was carrying weapons.
However, because of security concerns, no additional information was given. Protesters’ actions are a reflection of the increased anxiety and tensions surrounding the Gaza conflict, which has allegedly resulted in the deaths of over 10,000 Palestinians.
