Vitol, the largest independent oil trader in the world, has chartered a supertanker provisionally to load oil for China from Venezuela, per two shipbrokers and data from the shiptracking majors Vortexa and Kpler.
The Very Large Crude Carrier Gustavia S., chartered for almost $11 million, has been scheduled to load cargo between 27 November and 2 December, per the sources. The firm refused to comment on the matter.
Vitol, among the major European trading majors seeking to resume trade in Venezuelan oil after Washington in mid-October, introduced a license lifting, through April 2023, sanctions on the country’s oil production and exports.
The U.S. has mentioned that it wants to witness progress toward a transparent presidential election based in Venezuela as well as a release of political prisoners by 30 November, or it could also reimpose sanctions.
