Singapore-based Ocean Network Express (ONE) recently confirmed its order for twelve cutting-edge methanol dual-fuel containerships.
According to reports from Intermodal Shipbrokers, the order, which consists of twelve vessels with a capacity of 13,000 TEU each, is the result of a strategic partnership between Chinese shipbuilders Yangzijiang Shipbuilding and Jiangnan Shipyard. The delivery of these recently commissioned ships is scheduled for 2026–2027.
This significant action aligns with ONE’s overall Green Strategy, which aims to strengthen the company’s commitment to decarbonisation and create a sustainable supply chain for the future.
The choice of methanol dual-fuel technology is consistent with ONE’s proactive strategy for environmentally responsible shipping options.
ONE had already announced its green intentions in March of this year when it signed a contract to build ten containerships ready for methanol and ammonia.
Modern features like a bow shield and other energy-saving equipment on these ships demonstrate the company’s dedication to environmental responsibility.
This most recent order complemented the ten ships ordered in May of the previous year, demonstrating ONE’s ongoing commitment to its green strategy.
In June 2023, ONE welcomed its first 24,000-TEU containership, ONE Innovation, as part of these environmentally friendly initiatives.
The ship, a Megamax boxship, has an energy-saving gadget, an exhaust gas cleaning system, and a bow windshield to meet International Maritime Organization (IMO) emission standards.
With these strategic investments, ONE hopes to deepen its investigation into long-term alternative fuels and decarbonisation technologies.
The company’s promise to become carbon neutral by 2050 proves its dedication to sustainable maritime transportation.
