This comes a month after a court in Qatar gave them a death sentence on the alleged charges of spying.
The charges against them were filed on March 25 and tried under Qatari Law. A Local Court gave them death sentences on October 26, a move which shocked the Indian External Affairs Ministry.
India then decided to explore all the legal options. The Ministry also released a statement saying that it is aware of the verdict passed by the Court of First Instance of Qatar regarding the 8 Indian employees of Al Dahra Company and that it is in touch with their family and the legal team to save them.
The arrested men were Captain Navtej Singh Gill, Captain Birendra Kumar Verma, Captain Saurabh Vasisht, Commander Amit Nagpal, Commander Purnendu Tiwari, Commander Sugunakar Pakala, Commander Sanjeev Gupta and Sailor Rajesh, all ex-Indian navy personnel employed by Dahra Global.
The Congress has asked the Government to successfully get the men released by utilising their diplomatic and political channels with Qatar.
The men have been through a lot since they were arrested last year. However, they got some relief when they were taken out of solitary confinement and taken to a jail ward with a double-bed occupancy with their colleagues.
