Attackers Confiscated Israeli-linked Tanker Central Park Off The Coast Of Aden, Yemen

An unknown force has hijacked an oil ship related to Israel off the coast of Aden in Yemen, per a private security group on Sunday.

The Central Park, owned and operated by the Zodiac Maritime, was detained in the Gulf of Aden, according to Ambrey, a private intelligence organization.

It was not immediately obvious who was responsible for the attack. Aden is occupied by forces aligned with Yemen’s internationally acknowledged government and a coalition led by Saudi Arabia that has long fought Iranian-backed Houthi rebels of Yemen.

The 5th Fleet of the United States Navy, which patrols the Middle East, didn’t immediately respond to The Associated Press.

According to Ambrey, U.S. naval forces appear engaged in the scenario and have urged vessels to stay clear of the area.

The capture of Central Park comes after an Israeli billionaire’s cargo vessel, CMA CGM Symi, was attacked Friday in the Indian Ocean by a probable Iranian drone as Israel waged war on Hamas in Gaza, an American defence official claimed Saturday.

The official talked on the condition of anonymity because he is not permitted to discuss intelligence topics publicly.

The attacks come when worldwide shipping is targeted in a weeks-long confrontation that threatens to escalate into a larger regional crisis — even as violence has ceased and Hamas exchanges hostage for Palestinian captives held by Israel.

The Houthis captured a vehicle transport vessel in the waters of the Red Sea off Yemen during the Israel-Hamas conflict, which started with the militants’ Oct. 7 raid.
