Ajith PJ, an Indian expat in the UAE for over two decades, was honoured with an academic doctorate in a momentous ceremony at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Dehradun for his groundbreaking study on measuring the energy efficacy of offshore support vessels in the UAE to develop an operational framework as well as a performance index.
Ajith’s research spanned six years and was focused on tackling a specific business challenge in the marine industry: the lack of a regulated technique for measuring energy efficiency and tracking carbon emissions in the operations of Offshore Support Vessels.
His research revealed the possibility of indirect as well as direct losses due to a lack of adequate measuring and evaluation, which affects operating costs and contributes to environmental issues.
Mr. Ajith finished his research by presenting insights on the most effective approaches for streamlining and tracking the energy efficacy of offshore support vessels in the UAE region, which has the fourth-highest concentration of such vessels.
Ajith joined Aries Marine in 2001 as an engineer with a degree in Naval Architecture with a Master of Business Administration in Technology Management and climbed the corporate ladder to become the company’s youngest MD, responsible for creative project development. Aries constitutes a multinational consortium with operations in 25 countries and interests in maritime, energy, offshore, and oil/gas projects.
His leadership and vision have been instrumental in the success of Aries Marine, which now employs almost 2400 people in 60+ offices worldwide. His 23-year career has included notable accomplishments such as design reviews, executing designs, and project management for the construction of more than 80 new-build/retrofit offshore support vessels; consulting on unique concepts that have entered the Guinness Book of World Records, such as the design of the world’s longest steel snake boat.
He was also instrumental in pioneering sustainable survey and condition assessment procedures utilizing aerial drones as well as underwater ROVs, making Aries the very first company in the Middle East to provide such combined services.
