On Wednesday, the US Navy successfully shot down a drone that originated in an area of Yemen controlled by the Houthi, a US defence official informed Reuters.
It is the sixth time that the United States Navy has shot drones in the southern Red Sea since Israel and the Hamas (Palestinian militant group) declared war on each other on Oct. 7, and it comes amid an increasing number of attacks on commercial vessels, especially in the Middle Eastern waterways.
Previously on Wednesday, the UKMTO agency and the British maritime security firm Ambrey cited an incident that revolved around a suspected drone above the Red Sea west of the port of Hodeidah.
The UKMTO advised vessels passing through the area to proceed with extreme caution. Per a US official, the attack caused no damage to US Navy warships or casualties to American forces.
The US Navy reported that three commercial vessels on Sunday were attacked in the southern Red Sea.
Yemen’s Houthi group claimed missile and drone assaults on two Israel-based vessels in the vicinity on Sunday, stating in a broadcast that the operations were in response to Yemenis’ demands and Muslim countries’ pleas to stand with the people of Palestine.
