The Security Service of Ukraine has unveiled its newest unmanned surface vehicle (abbreviated as the USV), which is intended to function as a powerful instrument in the strategic maritime sector.
The Mamay, which takes its name from a mythical character from Ukrainian folklore, is a fast, explosives-equipped vessel with a top speed of 110 km/h, as the SBU noted in their release.
Like its predecessors, the Mamay is a covert Ukrainian USV that has optical sensors as well as remote communication abilities that extend beyond direct line-of-sight to enable remote control.
A satellite communication antenna on the Mamay is housed in a unique radome-shaped structure. This antenna allows for precision targeting capabilities even across great distances, which is an important tool in modern naval combat tactics.
The SBU underlined that the concept of maritime military operations has been drastically altered by these autonomous surface vehicles. The SBU claims that these drones are produced locally, highlighting Ukraine’s independence in producing them without the help of outside parties.
Targeting enemy military boats and crucial infrastructure in the occupied regions of Crimea as well as the Black Sea, these drones play a crucial role.
