The offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust West zone (lot 6) based in the waters of the Dutch North Sea has reportedly been awarded a contract by Ecowende, a joint venture between Eneco and Shell, per confirmation from the Dutch naval construction firm Van Oord.
With an installed capacity of approximately 760 MW, Ecowende’s wind farm will be situated near IJmuiden, 53 km off the Dutch coast. With little effect on the natural habitat of bats, birds, and marine animals, as well as a vibrant undersea world, it is anticipated to be the most ecological wind farm to date.
The wind farm is expected to provide roughly 3% of the current electricity consumption in the Netherlands when it is put into service in 2026.
Van Oord will design, acquire, and construct the inter-array cables in addition to transporting and installing the wind turbines and foundations under the terms of the undisclosed deal.
In an effort to reduce noise during construction, the business plans to employ its under-construction installation vessel (offshore) dubbed the Boreas for the transportation and installation of the foundations and turbines.
Additionally, it will utilize the vibro hammer for the first time ever at a Dutch offshore wind farm. One of Van Oord’s flexible fall pipe ships will be used to install an “eco-friendly” scour protection, and the company’s cable-laying vessel Nexus will install inter-array cables.
