New Mangalore Port Welcomes First Cruise Ship Of The Year, MS Riviera

The first cruise vessel, 2024, “M S Riviera”, reached the New Mangalore Port (abbreviated the NMP), per the port authorities. This is the fourth vessel to dock at the port in the current season. On Wednesday, the Marshall Islands-flagged vessel was docked along berth No. 04 with 980 guests and crew members.

The vessel reached after it visited Dubai, Mormugao, and Mumbai ports. The length of the ship is 239 meters. It boasts a carrying capacity of 66,172 gross tonnage and a draft of 7.60 meters.

The passengers had been given a warm welcome. They heard the melody of Mangalore’s brass band and performances by Yakshagana artists. The release specified that the guests were happy to experience the cultural attractions in the lounge. In a show of hospitality, NMPA deputy chair K.G. Nath, port deputy conservator captain S.R. Pattanayak, secretary Jijo Thomas, and other senior personnel felicitated the ship’s master. The master gave a memento to the deputy chair as a reciprocal gesture.

Before departing on the journey, the visitors were given souvenirs that reflected Mangaluru’s rich cultural past. At 5 p.m., the ship set sail for Kochi.
